Planning the Last Fling

Even though most of our wedding tasks are quickly falling into place there are still a few things that need to be planned – Including the bachelorette party. Traditionally, the bridal party plans the festivities but since I loathe all plastic novelty items and “last fling” shenanigans, I decided it would be in my interest to take the reins and plan most of event myself.

Originally, I had high hopes for a “Sex in the City” weekend in New York City, filled with Cosmo martinis, cupcakes and shopping, however after looking into flights, hotel prices and my current wedding budget, I decide to leave that adventure for after the wedding and stick to a local celebration instead.

With a little creativity I am pretty sure I can keep my bachelorette party clear from any “adult” establishments while sticking to a budget and creating lasting memories. So, here are my ideas…

Channel your inner Marilyn with a pin-up photo shoot – Miami-based photographer Janette Valentine of Terribly Girly turns plain Jane’s into sexy pin-up girls with the help of her glamorous comrades. For around $400 you will get to strut your stuff in vintage clothes and strike a pose!  You will be amazed of the transformation and the pictures are priceless! Plus, the photos can be given to your fiancé as a wedding day gift.

Dinner, Drinks and Dancing - Grab your friends, your fanciest dress and your highest heels!  If you are looking for dinner with a twist, Sushi Samba offers patrons the opportunity to partake in a Samba dance class, sushi making class or a sake tasting.  If you are looking for something a little more risqué, Vice Lounge on Lincoln Road might be your answer. For a small fee you and 10 friends can enjoy dinner, drinks, a champagne toast and a one hour performance from a Vice dancer. For more fancy dining options check out Gilt City.

Learn a new routine - There are a few locations scattered around South Florida that offer pole dancing classes and almost all offer private parties. If you are ready to kick off your heels and break a sweat while attempting to look sexy check out Evette’s Dance and Fitness Club, Crunch Fitness and Vixen Fitness.  Classes range from $15 – $30 depending on the class and studio.

Become a master chef – Hone your skills in the kitchen by taking a cooking class with one the many great chefs around Miami.  From the Biltmore’s Culinary Academy to Eleanor Hoh’s Wok Star class there is something for every palate. For more cooking classes check out South Florida Gourmet.

My day job has allowed me to plan and attend some of the swankiest affairs around town, so when tables were turned and my event was on the line only the best would suffice. But with only a shoestring budget to work with and Veuve Clicquot taste, planning a wedding is a little more daunting than I ever imaged.
